Wing Chun Workshop

with Sifu Ariel Betti ! 1/28/12

wing chun workshop

On January the 28th, Saturday afternoon, a group of aspiring Wing Chun students assembled at the American school in Tunis, Tunisia to learn the intricacies of the art form from Sifu Ariel Betti. Ariel has a long-outstanding resume which includes instructor for the Chinese Wushu Association in Tunisia; in tandem with his advanced studies alongside a notable Sifu from the Wudang, Henan region, and his loyalty to his old Master in Cameroon (Master Geese JeanClaude) -- who will be making a trip to Tunisia for an exclusive workshop after the summer season comes to a close. Ariels accolades include the highest merits of Chinese Kungfu, (Golden Dragon status) and a litany of other Martial Arts credentials including: black belt in Aikido-Jujitsu, Sifu in Wing Chun style, and brown belt in Ninjitsu; not to mention his uncanny abilities in Chinese Internal Martial Arts (Neidan) which include: Tai Chi Chuan, Baguazhang, and Xingyi.

At three o'clock sharp, on Saturday afternoon, the workshop event kicked off with about fifteen martial arts students taking part in the exclusive training seminar. Amongst them was instructor (black belt in Jujitsu) Chekib Chakroun, who assisted Ariel Betti in demonstrations and helping out with technical situations. The weather was nice, and the mood was uplifting, as Chekib took the class through a series of exercises and warm ups, before Ariel took over the reigns and led the diverse group through a combination of challenging aerobic and Shaolin type calisthenics. Once everyone caught their breath, the group was instructed in a plethora of Wing Chun techniques which included: blocking, elbowing, covering, long distance striking, chin-na, and grappling maneuvers.

Eventually the class was taken into a large gymnasium for a few sprinting drills, and an enjoyable amount of engaging group activities. Students were made to stand on top of five benches, stacked on top of each other, and block basketballs thrown at them using correct Wing Chun forms. Punching drills, and other two man drills were employed; standing on top of a single bench, as the event ended with a lot of smiles and good humor. The amount of diversified drills and activities scheduled proved the depth of Sifu Betti's knowledge in the Martial Arts and his ability to synthesize his teaching enthusiasm into a group-format (learning experience) is impeccable.

Training for over sixteen years in the domain of Martial Arts and traveling the world; frequenting many advanced Martial Arts classes & circles--I dare say Sifu Ariel's professionalism is top notch, and his expertise is second to none in the domain of self defense and martial discipline. His synergy of skill, fortitude, and compassion, during his workshops, is a rare combination of maturity which makes his events fun, and above all, conducive to learning and actually being able to take something away from the experience. I challenge all Martial Artist's of Tunisia to come out to an event this year, make some new friends, and sharpen your abilities. All levels and grades of Martial artists are welcome to come and join in on the fun; even if you are beginner (this is more the reason to come out and enjoy something memorable.) Life is too short, so get off the sofa!
